The merchandising strategy matrix

The Merchandising page lets you steer what your sales team cross-sells. Instead of leaving every suggestion to RevLogic's data, you can tell it: when this type of product is in the cart, offer these types alongside it. Your choices flow straight into the "Goes with this order" recommendations.

The idea: anchors and targets

The page is a table of your anchor product types — the types that come from how your products are organized in Shopify. For each anchor, you pick up to three target product types your team should offer when that anchor is in the cart.

For example, if “Coffee Beans” is the anchor, you might set targets to “Filters,” “Grinders,” and “Mugs.” Now whenever a customer is buying coffee beans, RevLogic pushes those three types up in the recommendations.

Each target slot carries a different weight — the first slot gets the strongest boost, the second less, the third least — shown in the column headers as multipliers. The top pick is guaranteed a slot in the recommendations, so your most important cross-sell always shows up.

How to set up a play

  1. Open Merchandising from the navigation.
  2. Find the anchor product type you want to steer. Rows are sorted by sales, so your biggest types are at the top; use the search box to jump to a specific type.
  3. In Target 1, choose the product type you most want offered with it.
  4. Optionally add Target 2 and Target 3 for secondary plays.
  5. Click Save. That's it.

You can configure as many anchor types as you like. A type shows “$X in sales” so you can prioritize the anchors that matter most to your revenue.

Changes take effect instantly

You do not need to re-sync or wait for an overnight rebuild. Merchandising choices are applied at the moment recommendations are ranked, so the next order-entry screen your team opens already reflects the change. Set a play, save, and it's live.

How it blends with real data

Merchandising doesn't override your data — it works with it:

  • Where RevLogic has a proven pairing from your order history, your boost lifts that real recommendation.
  • Where there's no mined rule for a target type yet, RevLogic injects your top seller in that type as a cross-sell play, so a brand-new strategy still has something concrete to offer.

This means you can launch a merchandising strategy on day one and let it get sharper as your order data accumulates.

Managing stale rules

If you set a target for a product type and later remove all products of that type from your catalog, RevLogic keeps the rule visible (marked “Not in catalog”) rather than silently dropping it — so you can see and clear it. Anchors whose type has left the catalog stay listed for the same reason.

When the matrix is empty

If you've just installed and your catalog hasn't finished syncing, the matrix will be empty and prompt you to sync. Product types come from your Shopify product organization, so once the catalog lands, the matrix unlocks.
